06. ZAMBIA NAMIBIA

Finally we crossed the border from the Democratic Congo to Zambia (severe limits, open only from 7-18hod). In Zambia’s great luxury for us, asphalt, electrical lighting, everything needed for peaceful travel and especially the ATMs. After about 100 km puts us in the local traffic police and warns us of the need to have two warning triangles. In the event of vehicle breakdown gives one forward and one back for the car. The fine is not paid, just buy an extra. The Zambia We have found information from other travelers. Apparently it does not pay to stay here in the national parks because the parks are better in Botswana, Namibia or South Africa. We comply with the council and we’re going over the heads of capital Lusaka to Livingston, there are waterfalls and a memorial Viktorin Emil Holub.

The journey from the border to Livingston takes us two days. The town of Livingstone is located on the banks of the Zambezi River and is almost Viktoriných Falls. Given that the Zambezi forms a natural border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, Viktorin Falls is half the territory of Zambia and Zimbabwe in the territory. It is a fantastic spectacle, when the Zambezi waters fall from great heights into giant fissures in the ground and continues in a deep canyon. It must have been amazing in November 1855 when Scottish explorer Dr.David Livingstone stood on the banks of the Zambezi, and saw the first European to amazing waterfalls. Named after the British Queen Victoria. Natives they were called Mosi-oa-Tunya (Thundering smoke), which perfectly captures the waterfalls. The waterfalls are 108 meters high (it should have Niagara Falls “only” 58 meters) wide and 1.7 km. The rainy season falls are so powerful that it flows through them staggering 10,000 cubic meters per second (for comparison, the Elbe in Decin, the flow of about 300 m3 / s). It’s really amazing waterfalls and the law is among the natural wonders of the world.

Of course I must mention the famous Czech explorer Emil Holub to the area as the first completely mapped. Tour Falls took us about half a day, then we headed off to the north to the border with Namibia. Sarka is already bad back and has a fever. I do not want to risk treatment at local hospitals, I know that hospitals in Namibia are at a high level. Spend nights in open camp in a beautiful Crokodile Creek. Situated on the bank of the Zambezi about 50km from Livingstone. Beautiful nature, helpful and friendly owners provide us spot where we parked, washed and relax. Sarka had a high fever at night, almost forty. I had to make a cold pack. Do not take drugs and I am really afraid of malaria. Fever, diarrhea and pain in joints and skin. These are all symptoms of malaria.

The morning after breakfast we set out to say goodbye and move swiftly towards Namibia. Borders are only 100 km distant and beautiful roads. For two hours after it uháníme Namibia direction of the nearest town. Sarka is already better, but hurry. We cross the bridge next Okawango famous river that flows from Angola into Botswana, where it spills into the great well-known delta and disappear. After two days and 1,500 km we get to a bigger city, where the private hospital. The staff takes us willingly taking it immediately and Sarka for blood tests. After a few minutes to learn that malaria does not. All problems are caused by a bacteria. We are happy to malaria would be a bummer. The doctor tells us that it is better not to take antimalarial drugs. Infected said as prevent and treat any complicating the healing process, and especially when taking antimalarials complicated blood test for malaria. Well we are happy that Sarka is OK.

We have great lunch and continues towards Etosha National Park. Along the way, represents the local Toyota service, changing your oil, air filter and try to clean the mud from the radiator. In Congo, we have moved into the mud, there is withered and clogging the air passage. The engine is slightly warm, the radiator will probably need to remove and clean thoroughly. Outside the 45 in the shade, cooling the Toyota great, but I blocked radiator of 70%. Well see if the cleaning service to help. Tonight we get to the gate of Etosha National Park. We decide to spend the night outside the park, it’s cheaper and perhaps safer. We are camping, accommodate, and now starting again with the cleaning of coolers, but I find that I need to remove. It’s a lot of work, must be deleted after cleaning the air conditioning and chillers draw again. It needs a special service for air conditioning. I’ll have to wait until a larger town.

In the morning we enter the Etosha National Park. The amount of game, but also a number of tourists in the park quite surprised us. Etosha is all fenced and it’s such a great zoo. Animals are most at watering, but also on the plains you can see a herd of antelopes and elephants. In the park we spent two days, and then we continued on the west coast of skeletons. The surrounding countryside and mountains to the coast the way are breathtaking. Namibia is a right amazing, beautiful landscapes, mountains, coast, desert, deep canyons. Asphalt roads are interspersed with rocky piston. Just beautiful. And especially in Namibia are in almost every German city of pubs, where I finally, after four months had steak with potatoes and beer. It was awesome!

In Namibia, we spent about 16 days and then go on to South Africa. Frontiers in cool, finally you do not need a visa and continue along the west coast towards Cape Town. Enough is cooled and Cape Town temperature drops to 15 degrees. It’s quite a shock in one day from Namibia to really warm the cold weather. Cape Town is amazing, we climb to the cable car to Table Mountain, which rises above the city up to 1100. It is well-known landmark of the city, which is said to be visible from a distance of 160 kilometers if you arrive by sea. Views from Table Mountain are stunning. The mountain can be reached either on his or cable. We chose a lift. Sarka pained stomach and a bad back. But the amazing view from the top for a moment forget the cramps in the abdomen, which is enough to start it again.

Leaving Cape Town and continue along the coast to the fishing village of Gans Bay. Here organize trips to the sea and you can participate in feeding white sharks. Watching them despite diving cage. It may be cold, but I want to go. In the morning we learn about 8000Kč price, so my interest is rapidly declining as the expensive attraction. That’s probably do not see it. Pozorujemeze shore to hunt seals and orca decide that the sea sharks will stay. The coast turns into the mountains. Beautiful nature, but the rain and very cold after our two days in the mountains to the coast again casts. We’re headed to East London to our friend. Along the way we drive through the countryside, where farms are beautiful white farmers. It’s nice to see a herd of horses at the foot of green mountains. What’s good for us that almost every farm you are welcome to leave the park at the place where you sleep. Morning breakfast and you can again hit the road. It’s relaxing for us after we passed on the west coast of Africa.
Hi Sarka and Milan.
